Retiree/Self-Pay Benefits
| Medical and Dental Benefits |
You may continue medical and dental coverage if:
- you have been continuing coverage at your own cost under COBRA;
- you are receiving a Pension from the Massachusetts Laborers’ Pension Fund;
- you make an election to enroll in the Retirees’ Self-Pay Medical Program;
- you are not eligible for Medicare.

| Vision Benefits | If you are a retired Union member and you maintain your membership, you and your eligible dependents are covered under the vision benefits provided by the Massachusetts Laborers’ District Council and the Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont District Councils. | Hearing Benefits | If you are a retired Union member and you maintain your membership, you and your eligible dependents are covered under the hearing benefits provided by the District Council. See their Web site (http://www.masslaborers.org/) for additional information about the Plan. This benefit is available to members in the Massachusetts District only. |
| Who Can Be Covered | You may elect to cover yourself and your eligible dependents. |
| Length of Coverage | Coverage under the Retirees’ Self-Pay Medical Plan will terminate on the earliest of the following dates: - when timely payment is not made; - when a covered individual becomes eligible for Medicare; or - when the child no longer meets the definition of a dependent under the Health and Welfare Plan. |
| Retiree Death Benefit | The amount of the retiree death benefit is $3,000. To be covered for the retiree death benefit, you must - be retired from the labor market, as that term is defined under the rules and regulations of the Massachusetts Laborers’ Pension Plan; and - have been covered by the Fund for three out of the last five years prior to date of your retirement. |
