Thinking about quitting smoking?
Quitting smoking is hard, and it’s one of the best things you can do for your health. Quitting smoking is like a marathon — the accomplishment is as much in the work as it is the finish line. Cutting back by even 1 or 2 cigarettes a day is progress!
Getting started: Talk to your PCP about what medications might be the right fit for you. Our benefits cover both the medications that curb cravings and nicotine replacement options (patches, gum, and lozenges) under our pharmacy benefit, all with no coinsurance.
Know your triggers: Cravings are often connected to certain situations, such as stress, your morning coffee, or break time at work. Once you recognize triggers, you can start finding healthier ways to respond when the urge to smoke comes up.
Keeping busy: For many people, quitting isn’t just about nicotine — it’s also about breaking a habit. What will work for you to break those habits? There is no one size fits all — here are some ideas that you might want to try: finding a distraction, chewing gum or sunflower seeds while driving, and delaying the time between cigarettes for a few minutes.
