Make Healthy Choices this Holiday Season
The holiday season can be hectic. Between holiday preparations, holiday parties, and traveling to visit with family, it can take extra effort to find time to take care of ourselves. Here are a few tips to help you make healthy choices this holiday season:
- Make nutritious ingredient swaps. You don’t have to give up all your favorite holiday dishes to stay healthy. When cooking your favorite meals, be mindful of easy changes you can make to the recipe to use less sugar, less fat, and more nutrient-dense ingredients. Swap white flour for whole grain, or use less butter to reduce fat content.
- Manage your portion sizes. If your heart is set on eating your grandmother’s famous pumpkin pie, simply take a smaller slice. Controlling your portions is a great way to eat the foods you like while keeping your health in mind.
- Drink more water. 6-8 cups a day is ideal for your health.
