How to Prevent and Manage High Blood Pressure

Published On: February 15, 2022

Keeping your heart healthy is vital to your overall health. According to the American Heart Association, nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure. The best way to know if you have high blood pressure is to get checked by your primary care doctor.

There are no apparent symptoms of high blood pressure, so don’t wait for symptoms to appear before you take action. Getting your blood pressure checked at your yearly physical is an important measure to protect your health and prevent more severe complications down the line.

When left untreated, high blood pressure can be the precursor to several other severe health conditions like heart disease or stroke.

While high blood pressure can be a serious health issue, it is also very manageable and easy to prevent. Knowing your blood pressure level and the healthy range is a big step towards managing your blood pressure.

Some preventative measures include:

  • Eating a healthy and balanced diet
  • Limiting your alcohol intake
  • Quit smoking
  • Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day
  • Reduce stress by meditating and practicing mindfulness
  • Getting at least 8 hours of sleep

These simple steps can help prevent high blood pressure and other health problems.
