Tips for National Men’s Health Month

June is not just any month—it’s National Men’s Health Month! At the Massachusetts Laborers’ Benefit Funds (MLBF), we recognize the importance of prioritizing health and wellness for all our hardworking Laborers. This month, we’re diving into valuable tips and recommendations to help you take charge of your well-being.

  • Schedule Regular Check-ups: Putting off those doctor appointments is easy, but your health is your wealth. Make it a habit to schedule annual check-ups with your healthcare provider. Regular screenings can catch potential issues early, ensuring you stay on your game.
  • Prioritize Mental Health: Physical health often takes the spotlight, but don’t overlook your mental well-being. Stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges affect us all. Take time for self-care, whether it’s through meditation, exercise, or talking to a professional. Remember, we should all ask for help when you need it.
  • Stay Active and Exercise Regularly: Exercise isn’t just about building muscle or shedding pounds—it’s about keeping your body strong and resilient. Aim for at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular or mobility exercise most days of the week – this is the type of exercise that will complement your very physical jobs. 
  • Eat Well for Fuel: You are what you eat, so fuel your body with nutritious foods. Focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Limit processed foods, sugar sweetened drinks, and excessive alcohol intake. Remember, small changes can lead to big results when it comes to your health.
  • Get Plenty of Sleep: Sleep often takes a backseat to our busy lives, but it’s crucial for overall health and well-being. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. Create a relaxing bedtime routine, limit screen time before bed, and ensure your sleep environment is comfortable and restful.
