Stay Active in Cold Weather
Staying active is good for our bodies and minds, but it can be especially challenging when it’s cold outside. Whether you’re busy at work or taking a break, it’s important to keep moving – both for you and for your family members. Here are some ways you and your family can stay active during winter:
- Enjoying winter sports and activities
Snowboarding, skiing, and ice skating are great activities to get your blood flowing and your heart pumping. Bring your family and friends together to play a game of ice hockey, hit the slopes, or visit a local rink.
- Take short walks throughout the day
Walking is one of the best ways to stay active, and you can do it even if you don’t have much spare time. Carve out 15-30 minutes to put on warm clothes and stroll outside your house, job site, or a nearby park.
- Lift weights at home
Too cold or icy to go outside? Stay indoors and get a great workout by using hand weights – or simply by doing bodyweight exercises like push-ups or crunches. Find a free moment after dinner or while you listen to the news or a podcast. Be sure to push yourself, but don’t go too far!
With these strategies, you and your family can keep active and healthy throughout winter. So have fun, and as always, don’t hesitate to reach out to MLBF with any questions!
